From April 16 to April 30, 2024, an artistic residency took place in Dublin, initiated by the Ukrainian-Irish Cultural Platform and Graphic Studio Dublin, with the participation of artist Serhiy Savchenko. The residency was supported by the GDAŃSK CULTURAL SCHOLARSHIP “MOBILITY FUND”.
”During my stay in Dublin, I quickly established excellent relationships with the collective at Graphic Studio Dublin. In the first few days, I had the opportunity to meet most of the artists who are members of this graphic association. To this end, my presentation was organized in front of my colleagues, during which I was able to talk about my work and interest the Dublin artists in printmaking techniques they were previously unaware of.
While working in the center’s studios, I not only worked productively but also learned and mastered new graphic techniques, particularly the Carborundum printing technique. Using this technique, I created 16 new works during the residency, applying my previous skills. Additionally, I visited the most important museums in Ireland, such as the National Gallery of Ireland, Dublin City Gallery, and the Irish Museum of Modern Art. I also renewed my contacts with the Dublin music community at the New Music Dublin festival. A particularly pleasant highlight was that one of the concerts featured a record label using one of my paintings.
During the residency, I held another meeting with the artists and presented the works I created during my stay.
One of the important goals of the residency was to establish new contacts with Irish artists. I am very pleased that such agreements have been reached, and we have already planned an exhibition of Irish graphic artists at the Savchenko Gallery in Gdańsk in the coming months.”Serhiy Savchenko
