“History is a story with a beginning, but without an end — only the possibility of continuation and hope.”
“Dedicated to all who seek meaning, remember the past, and believe in the future…”
Selected History of Western Civilization
Selected History of Western Civilization is not a static film, but a living art project that grows with time. At the end of each year, the artist adds a new fragment — reflecting the events that have just passed — so the film constantly evolves and receives updates. Individual years also exist as separate short films that can be viewed independently.
It is both a cinematic diary and an artistic statement — the gaze of an observer who subjectively documents what is most meaningful to him. The film merges history and personal interpretation, myth and modernity, forming a living image of civilization that changes together with the artist.

Humanity endlessly creates and destroys its own world — only to rebuild it again. Yet with every cycle, something changes. Are we destined to repeat mistakes, or are we slowly learning to evolve?
In this poetic and ever-growing animation, artist Serhiy Savchenko interprets key moments in the history of Western civilization — from mythic origins to modern transformations. Balancing the raw energy of a child’s imagination with the refinement of a painter’s hand, the film becomes a personal map of history, constantly expanding and reshaped by the artist’s reflections.
